The Volunteers of America Delaware Valley, a member of the NJ Advocacy Network to End Homelessness, initiated a voter registration drive that began on Friday September 12th and will continue through September 27th. The opening event on Friday September 12th was at the Anna Sample Complex which hosted a Voter Education Day from 11:00am – 2:00pm. Together with the Camden County Board of Elections VOA provided education to citizens on voter registration information (who can vote, why, when & where), provided applications/mailers, polling booth demonstrations as well as presented information on the issues affecting our Community. More than twenty-five new voters were registered.

Daniel L. Lombardo, President and CEO of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley sent a letter to all members of the VOA Delaware Valley community encouraging them to conduct active voter registration with both program participants as well as with neighborhood residents between now and the end of National Homeless and Low Income Voter Registration Week.

Mr Lombardo stated in his letter:

We all have our own opinions and our own needs and that is what makes us all unique. But these needs are not going to be solved by simply accepting our fate. The first step in creating positive change in our lives is in the voting booth. Our right to vote is the most important, and most powerful, right. It paves the way for our future and gives us a roadmap on what our society will become.

No matter what the outcome of this election, it will prove to be our most historic. Regardless of who you vote for, we will either have the first African American President or the first female Vice President. In my opinion, this is one of the most important elections in our country’s history and I look forward to casting my vote and doing my part in writing history.
