The 2009 National Conference on Ending Family Homelessness will be held February 12-13, 2009 at the San Diego Hotel and Marina in San Diego, CA. The National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) has established a Scholarship Program to assist homeless and formerly homeless people, as well as individuals who work with organizations that cannot afford to cover the full cost of participating in the conference and/or travel and hotel costs for the conference. A scholarship valued at up to $1,500 will be awarded to consumers and residents to cover travel, hotel, transportation and registration costs. Organizational scholarships will cover reduced conference registration fees. Click here for more details. Deadline to apply is December 15, 2008.

I am nearly out of my home here in New Jersey, Medford, NJ. I am being foreclosed on a home I have lived in for 9 1/2 years. I have had a business out of my home for 10 plus years running a day care business. so when I was losing my home it became a double problem for I knew I had to find a job out side of my home in a field I have not been in full-time in years. It took so long to get a job. Where as I was looking I started working cleaning homes and doing art work to make some cash. With every month it was harder to get out of the behinds and bills to get caught up. I have a e-mail stating I did have extra time that the forecloser was postponed, yet they auctioned my home anyway. I have only a few days to get out, no way to get out, and no money to store my belongings. Very little time to find a place or to even afford down payment. Working and making 3500.00 and 800.00 potential income from renting in my home I thought I would be fine. it still was not enough since the rears have been piling up for so, so many months. Where will I go…I have 60 to 90 percent custody of my children, single parent, with no family in this area. My Ex travels and is not in the same school district and lives farther away. How can I get help….shelter are full, Rainbow needs 1 1/2 months to find a place if there is one. My close friend have little enough space and family dynamics of their own. It is may be ok to stay with friends for a week or so, but beyond this point, I feel panic that I will have to spoil friendships, barrow money, sleep at local Churches and lose job for traveling around to and fro to get kids to school on time since there will be no bus to pick them up or drop them off. I have all my feelers out and am open to shares with people I don’t know, but it comes with a fear factor. I will not know these people and I have 11 and13 year old boy and Girl to worry about!!!!
I fall between the cracks for legal aid for bankruptcy and can’t wait to become unemployeed until the list gets to my name. Then the list goes in a big group maybe in march or April. I need help now!!! I will be attacked for all the rears and other legal debt. Having no one to turn to I would like to know how to get out of this mess. I am not a dead bet, I work, I have maintained my home for 8 years alone, paying every bill on time till this housing crisis 1 1/2 years ago. I do not drink or do drugs, I have not dated in 9 years since my ex plit. I have been a role model to other single mother who can do it alone. Yet, Here I AM SAYING I CAN’ DO IT ALONE. PLEASE HELP ME GET BACK ON TRACK……I NEED A BREAK
