Famous and homeless

in Ending Homelessness

Among the famous people who have been homeless are:

John Drew Barrymore
Halle Berry
Jim Carrey
Charlie Chaplin
Kelly Clarkson
Kurt Cobain
Ella Fitzgerald
David Letterman
Sally Jesse Raphael
Hillary Swank

Several web sites have recently listed famous people who have been homeless. We prefer the one compiled on the Homeless Tales blog.

As the author, Matt D. Barnes the author of the Homeless Tales blog, who also is currently homeless, explained, “Every day, we walk past people in the streets without having the slightest clue that they are homeless because they do not fit the stereotypical image. Even of those that do fit the common-held image, you simply cannot tell by looking at them what past contribution to society they may have made or what contribution they may be capable of producing in the future. You never know what value or talent could be concealed behind the grubby faced facade.”

We not only concur with Mr. Barnes but encourage our readers to add names to the list, especially those from New Jersey. It is only when we move beyond the stereotypical image that we will be able to end homelessness.
