Senator Robert Menendez was appointed last month to chair the Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation, and Community Development. This is the primary oversight committee for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Upon his appointment, Senator Menendez said “With this new responsibility, I will be able to more directly help effect change on some major economic issues that impact the lives of New Jersey families on a daily basis. The housing crisis is the root of our economic struggles. It continues to affect families who lose their homes as well as their neighbors who face plummeting property values and begin to worry about their own financial situation. I’m going to work closely with President Obama to deliver real economic security to families who are worried about how they can continue to afford their mortgage payments”

This is a well deserved honor for Senator Menendez. In addition, as he stated this new responsibility will allow him to provide oversight of HUD and thus insure that the resources necessary to end homelessness are available to New Jersey.

Senator Menendez has not only been a fighter for New Jersey but also has been supportive of the Advocacy Network to End Homelessness. For both Congressional Receptions he has been the host. In addition, in the first annual Report Card, his score was five out of five for a total of 100% and insured his ranking as Very Supportive. Senator Menendez supported all five issues.
