On Thursday June 18, 2009, the State Senate will be voting on S2354, the County Homeless Trust Fund bill sponsored by Senators Dana L. Redd and Brian Stack. This is a very significant step toward providing counties with a dedicated source of funding to implement plans to end homelessness. The County Homeless Trust Fund bill, sponsored by Senators Dana L. Redd and Brian Stack, will allow counties that have developed plans to have a recurring source of funding that would be dedicated to ending homelessness. The funds must be used for programs that not only are consistent with local plans but also measurably reduce homelessness while demonstrating cost savings over time.

Because of two amendments to the bill, the Assembly version A3101 sponsored by Assembly members Bonnie Watson Coleman, Nilsa Cruz-Perez, Mila M. Jasey, Elease Evans, Reed Gusciora and Nellie Pou along with seven co-sponsors will need to be approved again by the full Assembly. The Advocacy Network is working diligently to have this vote occur at the Assembly session this week. If this is not possible, the vote should occur at the next meeting of the Assembly on June 25, 2009.
