More than three hundred and fifty (350) formerly homeless people, passionate advocates and housing providers from across the state attended the July 28, 2009 Congressional Reception. Frank Robertson stated that it is up to all of us to end homelessness. He highlighted that we all need to have compassion to our fellow citizens. “We are all God’s children,” he stated. He noted that when he was homeless he was unable to get into a shelter because he had lost his identification. He only resolved this because he was able to get someone to verify who he was. Now, because of Advance Housing he has had a place to call home for two and one-half years. “Now I have hope and faith again,” said Mr. Robertson.

Marc A. Cevasco represented Congressman Steve Rothman (D-9). Mr. Cevasco thanked Mr. Robertson and all of the participants. “You are providing a voice to the voiceless,” stated Mr. Cevasco. He explained that prior to becoming the legislative director for Congressman Rothman he had been a case manager in a transitional housing program for the homeless. According to Mr. Cevasco, Congressman Rothman understands the need to end homelessness and supports the goals of the Advocacy Network. He underscored the importance of the numbers who made the trip to the Congressional Reception.
