In response to the S1 legislation, partner organization CSH (Corporation for Supportive Housing-NJ) delivered the following sign on letter to Senator Codey:
“We want to clarify some confusion around Senate Bill 1 sponsored by Senators Lesniak, Bateman and Van Drew. We, the special needs housing providers signed below, ask you to oppose S1. This bill will set housing development for New Jersey’s homeless and special needs communities back 15 years. It will adversely affect your legacy of improving the lives of people with disabilities. New Jersey needs more affordable housing opportunities for individuals and families who are homeless and/or have special needs. Both Governor Christie and Senator Raymond Lesniak have said that NJ needs more housing opportunities near jobs and transportation. Despite his words in support of these changes, Sen. Lesniak’s proposal to reform the state’s housing system (S1) does not achieve these goals…”

Alison Recca-Ryan is the President of the New Jersey Advocacy Network to End Homelessness and also the New Jersey Program Director of the Corporation for Supportive Housing. Alison has a 30 year history in the social service and mental health arena, and joined CSH in 1997 as a Program Manger. Currently, as Director of the New Jersey CSH HUB, she is responsible for managing all of CSH New Jersey’s staff and programmatic work. Prior to coming to CSH, Ms Recca-Ryan held positions of Executive Director of the Mental Health Association in Somerset County and Assistant Vice President of Easter Seals-NJ. Ms. Recca-Ryan has developed affordable supportive housing programs for special needs populations throughout New Jersey. Additionally, she has overseen programs and services for substance abuse treatment, transitional housing for AFDC families, children’s mental health and juvenile justice. She serves as a CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehab Facilities) surveyor, was Co-Chair of the Housing and Special Needs Working Group for the NJ Department of Community Affairs and is the Co-Chair of the NJ Re-Entry Coordinating Council Workgroup on Housing.
