About

by Richard Brown on August 16, 2008

You and I, we believe in a basic principle that no one should be homeless in America.

You and I, we dream that one-day every citizen not only in New Jersey but also in every town and every city of this great country will have a place to call home.

You and I, we dream that one-day no child will have to go to sleep hungry and living on the streets of our great state.

You and I, we dream that one-day when our military veterans do return home they will not have to live homeless in the woods of New Jersey.

You and I know we must never be satisfied until no one is homeless in New Jersey.

The New Jersey Advocacy Network to End Homelessness’ mission is to advocate on a local, state and federal level for adequate funding and sound practices that will end homelessness. This is achieved with a variety of programs and initiatives. These include:

Congressional Reception

The Third Annual Congressional Reception has been scheduled for Tuesday July 28, 2009. More than two hundred formerly homeless people, passionate advocates and housing providers from across the state attended last year’s event.

The New Jersey Advocacy Network to End Homelessness (NJANEH) coordinated the First Annual Congressional Reception on July 11, 2007. New Jersey was well represented by more than one hundred (100) New Jersey constituents including the formerly homeless, passionate advocates and housing providers from across the state. People traveled by train, bus and car to get there to be part of this unique opportunity to meet with our legislators to let them hear firsthand issues of importance to our communities.

Homeless Trust Fund

After two and one-half years, the legislative phase of the campaign to create County Homeless Trust Funds has come to an end. On Thursday June 25, 2009, the New Jersey Assembly approved A3101 by a vote of 52-27. This is the final legislative action required! The bill now takes the usual course of approved bills and is sent to Governor Corzine for signature.

The County Homeless Trust Funds will allow counties that have developed plans to end homelessness to have a recurring source of funding that would be dedicated to achieving their goals. The funds must be used for programs that not only are consistent with local plans but also measurably reduce homelessness while demonstrating cost savings over time. By focusing the trust funds on proven strategies, this initiative will play a crucial role in helping to shift the current homeless delivery system from one that manages homelessness to one that will end homelessness.
